We are pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition that takes its viewers underwater to demonstrate the two major environmental problems affecting our oceans and, consequently, all life on earth: plastic waste and rising sea levels.Visual artist and photographer Susana Sanromán recreates hypothetical scenarios of near-future realities to increase awareness that oceans are the lifeblood of not only the planet but of humankind. ‘Present Imperfect, Future Tense’ reflects on the importance of water for all animals. We as humans are comprised of around 60% water, the planet is 3/4th water, and in the quest for a habitable planet, water is essential " The images recreate hypothetical scenarios of near-future realities. These fictitious narratives are based on statistical projections of the effects of climate change. The exhibition will also celebrate the launch of a photobook co-published by Brit Es Magazine and Leica, ‘Dystopia’, which brings together Susana Sanromán’s photo series to present a visual dystopia as the viewer simultaneously looks back with ‘The Things We Leave Behind’ whilst thinking of tomorrow in ‘Present Imperfect, Future Tense’.Susana Sanromán work will be exhibited at the Leica Studio Mayfair from 25th October- 9th November, Monday to Saturday, 10am – 6pm. Free Entry. |

Artists will animate the East Tower of the Byzantine style, Grade II listed church, spilling over into the South Hall and Upper Balcony. Curator Rebecca Feiner said "Women are half of our history, half of our present, and half, of all our futures. Culturally with Maria Balshaw taking over at London's Tate Modern, and politically women physically making their presence felt from Japan, to Poland, from Saudi Arabia to America and here in the UK, it really felt like the right time to celebrate female creativity and make this exhibition happen.” Exhibition continues until April 8th at the Tower Gallery (East Tower), Memorial Community Church, 395 Barking Road, London E13. 51%RememberHer is an off-site project by Elements Gallery London, the capital's first dedicated exhibition space for outdoor art. We interview London based visual artist Susana Sanromán who was born in Galicia, Spain and has achieved a lot in her short career so far. She is an award winning artist and as a person, she has that philosophical depth and edge that makes her work interesting and unique. Her exhibition “The Things We Leave Behind” which highlighted the impact of waste, resulting from the continuous production of goods in our societies, was out at the Leica Gallery in Mayfair during April. The video of the same exhibition has also been selected for the Atkins CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the year 2016. Susana is definitely a talent to watch and is already making waves thanks to her gift for images. It is a pleasure to interview a lady of the world with a big talent and a humble attitude. (Extract from The Lady of the World Interview)
The Atkins CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the Year competition organisers have announced that their shortlist of 60 images will go on show at the Royal Geographical Society in London from 29 June to 21 August 2016. The exhibition will then travel to Grizedale Forest, Cumbria.
The competition aims to provide an international showcase for the very best in environmental photography and film, and to inspire a global audience to think differently about contemporary social and environmental issues, including sustainable development, pollution and human rights. The call for submissions generated around ten thousand entries from around the globe, which were then judged on impact, relevance, originality and technical ability by a panel of judges working within various fields dealing with environmental and conservation issues. 29 JUNE - 22 AUGUST 2016 ROYAL GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY 1 Kensington Gore London SW7 2AR Open daily 10am - 5pm Admission Free http://ow.ly/LNQ0301haZy Video LINK Sanromán will be showing 5 images from her project Essentia-Praesentia.
